JK - MRS. FRASER
Wed., Nov. 16 – Dress up as a knight/king/princess; Pizza Day
Fri., Nov. 18 – No School – Report Card Writing Day
Wed., Nov. 23 – Picture Retake Day
Fri., Nov. 25 – Field Trip; Report Cards go home
What is Happening in JK:
We are continuing to work on patterning skills. We are also learning to sort objects by different characteristics (i.e. not just shape or colour).
Building uppercase letters using things such as wooden pieces (using the terms: big lines, little lines, big curves, and little curves) as well as playdough has been a fun challenge. We are learning to write them too. The songs and actions we are learning help us remember the letter sounds.
We are learning about making predictions and doing experiments to learn about God’s world. We did an exciting experiment about whether an egg can float. Ask your child about it.
Please review our memory work Duet. 30:16. We are reviewing some of the Bible stories we have learned so far and the students are encouraged to use pictures to help retell some of them.
Conflict solving with our peers continues to be a skill we are developing. The students are being asked to use their kind words and think of ways to solve the problem.
Please return the field trip permission forms as soon as you can. Thanks!
November 22 - Shared Snack - bring a snack to share that has a specific shape (such as square crackers or circular orange slices)
SK - MRS. VANDENBRINK
We are exactly half way through November. Pattern Day was fun and there were many interesting patterns to look at that day. It was also interesting to observe and compare the items the children brought from home that were as heavy as their shoes. The children discovered toys, books, and even a pillow that matched the weight of their shoe. Great job! Please keep Friday, Nov. 25 in mind. We are going to celebrate colour that day, and the children are asked to come dressed as colourful as they can. A reminder: there is no school this Friday. It is also Picture Retake Day on Nov. 23.
I have suggested a game to play at home to support letter sound practice and/or sight word practice. Please see the blog for instructions, as well as reminders and the Star Student schedule.
GRADE 1 & 2 - MRS. BRAGAN
GRADE 3 & 4 - MISS EDWARDS
The Grade 3-4 class was full of eager teachers on Dress Up Wars Day, November 16.
No spelling test on Thursday, November 17. Spelling tests will resume on November 25.
New Bible Memory work for December: Luke 2:8-12. Please put the review sheet somewhere where you will see it and review it every day!
GRADE 5 & 6 - MRS. MIEDEMA
The students have started a new PBL entitled “They Paved Paradise and Put Up a Parking Lot?” They are taking part in a simulation in which each one represents a different type of person or member of a different organization. I am also part of the simulation. I play a retired nurse named Agnes Hannah. I co-own, with my brother Thomas, a piece of land that borders onto sensitive wetlands owned by the Crown. I would like to sell my land and various people (students) are interested in buying it. I have also enlisted the help of several consultants. Each potential buyer has to come up with a proposal, both visual and oral. With the help of my consultants, I will choose one of the potential buyers to buy my land. More about it next time.
The schedule of the week is as follows: Thursday, November 17 – Grammar Test; Friday, November 18 – P.D. Day (no school); Tuesday, November 22 – Spelling Quiz; Wednesday, November 23 – Vocab Test; Thursday, November 24 – Bible Memory (Isaiah 53:3); Friday, November 25 – Volleyball Tournament.
