My wife and I have been fortunate enough to travel to some wonderful places. On our trips I love to see the architecture, particularly historical buildings; structures like Chichen Itza in Yucatan, Mexico and the Coliseum in Rome, which are two of

St. Thomas Community Christian School will be a school with an engaging and community-building volunteer program.

Recently, I read a great quote that describes how a community can best accomplish a set goal.  It states: “If you wish to build a ship, do not divide people into teams and send them to the forest to cut wood. Instead, teach them to long for the vast and endless sea (Author unknown).”   Often, when we ask people for help, we simply ask them to “cut wood.”  This request is lacking.  It doesn’t inspire.  It doesn’t consider the endless sea.

I believe that our Board has set a great vision for Christian education in St. Thomas through our new Mission and Vision statements.  Being an engaged school community that deeply cares for every student’s needs is profoundly inspiring.  It is, however, a vision that we cannot accomplish on our own.

Outcome #2 describes our belief that we can be a community that both inspires our volunteers and successfully creates community through their efforts towards improving our student experience.  Our goal isn’t simply to run a successful event, or raise money, or cook a meal… in other words: cutting wood.  We are trying to help our children thrive and flourish through Christian education.  We are working together to help them reach their God-given potential.
